After having reviewed Seifuku Ga Jamaosuru I thought it was time for something a little less serious, especially considering the fact that what comes next in the AKB discography is even worse.  So I thought I’d review a bit of Morning Musume.

Morning Coffee is their second, or first, single, depending on how you keep track of those kinds of thing.  Near as I can tell, it’s a bit of a love song.

I…  kinda liked it.  Not really liked it, but kinda liked it.  The girls are about as stiff as in the first video, but I think this was actually kind of a late 90s vibe, but it was slow, melodic, and they harmonized really well.  I realize that AKB48 came later, but they don’t really harmonize at all, so it is nice to hear a song where some musical competence is shown, especially this early in their discography.  I think the best word I have to describe it is, relaxing.  It’s a very relaxing song.

As later Morning Musume songs seem to be marked by frenetic dance moves, flailing arms, and seizure inducing costumes, I wonder when that vibe changed.  I guess I’ll find out as I move further through their rather massive portfolio.

How about a Lone Star rating?

I guess it goes with the vibe, but they were low action.
